Our School Holidays Program Schedule

Week 1 – A City Escape with 3 Nights at the luxurious Vibe Hotel in Darling Harbour

Monday, 12th December

Activity: Day Out at Darling Harbour & The Chinese Gardens!

After checking into the luxurious and highly rated Vibe Hotel in Darling Harbour, we escape to the serene and secluded Chinese Garden of Friendship in Darling Harbour. Unwind with a stroll through the quiet gardens, past its waterfalls, lakes, exotic plants, pavilions and hidden pathways…

Then bask in the sunshine with a fun picnic in the park at Darling Harbour.

Followed by some relaxation back at the Vibe hotel. Take a swim in the infinity pool overlooking the city skyline, watch the sunset as the city lights up.

Finally take a journey of fantastic flavours and unforgettable moments down to Harbourside by the water for dinner.

Tuesday, 13th December

Activity: Day Out at Taronga Zoo!

After waking up from a relaxing night at the Vibe hotel Darling Harbour, we start the day off with a delicious breakfast, we then take a picturesque ferry ride across Sydney Harbour to one of Australia’s most fascinating and iconic attractions – Taronga Zoo! Home to over 4,000 animals from across the world, all your senses will come alive as you adventure through the magnificent gardens and jungles, seeing the wildlife play and hearing the wonderful animals sing and roar. Enjoy a tasty lunch with gorgeous views overlooking the magnificent Sydney Harbour, catch a fun and educational keeper show, ride the Sky Safari, perhaps even pat a koala!

Winding down for the day, we then head back to the Vibe hotel to relax for a while before heading out again to have some incredible dinner at one of Sydney’s favourite foodie hotspots.

Wednesday, 14th December

Activity: Day Out at the Aquarium and Museums!

After our second night at the Vibe hotel Darling Harbour, we enjoy a scrumptious brekky, we head on over to the beautiful Museum of Contemporary Art (Do Ho Suh exhibition), exploring Australia’s leading museum dedicated to exhibiting, interpreting and collecting contemporary art from across Australia and around the world!

After this, we’ll grab some tasty lunch before heading off by a fun ferry ride to see the magical underwater creatures at the Sealife Aquarium. Experience the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef in the largest exhibit of its kind in the world. Get face-to-fin with the marine turtles, reef sharks, and over 13,000 marine animals and fish as you explore the under-water world.

Then we’ll head over to the Australian National Maritime Museum, one of the largest and most diverse in-water fleets in the world. Explore the danger and drama of military life at sea, climb aboard the cold war submarine HMAS Onslow, the naval destroyer HMAS Vampire, and the stunning replica of Captain Cook’s tall ship HMB Endeavour.

Finally we’ll end the day off enjoying the sunset at Tumbalong Park before winding down for dinner and relaxing at Vibe hotel.

Activity: Exploring Circular Quay

On our final day in the city, we’ll enjoy a big brekky and a final stroll around Circular Quay, boat watching, spotting street performers and taking in the lovely views of the harbour and some local delights.

Activity: Have a SPLASH at Raging Waters!

Enjoy some fun in the sun at Raging Waters, with over 30 rides, slides, and attractions at Sydney’s biggest waterpark! Challenge your family and friends on the H2Go Racers, experience the speed of the 360 Rush, chill out by the beach or feel the thrills on Bombora.

Activity: Playtime at The Shine Shed!

Enjoy a day out at The Shine Shed, Sydney’s only All Abilities Play Centre. Custom designed to meet the needs of children, teens and young adults with a disability. Fully accessible, The Shine Shed provides an inclusive sensory play centre the whole family can enjoy!

Activity: Strawberry Picking!

Pick punnets of farm fresh strawberries with us in the sun at the famous Berrylicious. Taste as you go, smell the delicious fragrances of these delectable delights as you snag the ones that look too tasty to pass up.

Activity: Cooking Class at the Culinary School!

Join us for a cooking class at The Culinary School where we’ll learn how to cook up a feast (and enjoy it afterwards too!). Great for building up your skills in the kitchen, socialising, working as a team and all around messy fun!

Activity: Picnic at The Royal Botanic Gardens!

Enjoy a lovely picnic in the sun at one of Sydney’s most beautiful and alluring destinations – the enchanting garden oasis in the heart of the city that is The Royal Botanic Gardens. Established in 1816, it is the oldest scientific institution in the country and is home to an outstanding collection of plants from Australia and overseas that you just have to see.

Activity: Swim Day at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre!

Swim, splash and slide at Sydney’s best indoor water park, The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. Featuring spas, saunas, steam rooms, heated pools, Rapid River Rides and water slides at Splasher’s Water Playground – it’s truly an amazing place for all the family.

Activity: A Spectacular Sensory Experience at the Sydney Festival!

Journey through the life of one of the most influential artists of all time in this unique biographical exhibition of Frida Kahlo.

This multi-sensory experience features seven transformational spaces, from collections of historical photographs and original films, captivating holography, 360º projections and a virtual reality system that will literally transport you inside Kahlo’s most famous works. Create your own flower crowns, turn your drawings into Frida-esque artwork and immortalise yourself through a souvenir illustrated photo, all accompanied by fresh arrangements of traditional Mexican music and live performance.

Activity: Road Trip to The Blue Mountains!

Experience fresh mountain air as you rise above Sydney and enter the spectacular Blue Mountains region. The Blue Mountains is perfect for exploring the best that NSW has to offer. The Three Sisters at Echo Point, bushwalking, galleries, dining, shopping, day spas, golf, and numerous attractions. Known for dramatic scenery, it encompasses steep cliffs, eucalyptus forests, waterfalls and lovely little villages. The Blue Mountains are justifiably world famous. And it’s not just those World Heritage-listed landscapes that draw people back. There are few better places to disconnect from the world and reconnect with yourself.

Activity: The Bella Program at The MCA!

Enjoy a fantastic social and creative learning experience! Look, listen, share and create! Engage with contemporary art in fun and social ways through an interactive gallery exploration and experimental art-making activities. Explore the multi-sensory Bella Room, an interactive artwork commissioned to engage and inspire people with access needs to connect with the work of contemporary artists through sensory experiences.

Activity: Sports and Picnic in the Park!

Have an awesome time at the huge kids’ activity park with tunnel slides, a water play area, a multi-level treehouse, adventure play equipment for all children of all ages and abilities and more at Sydney Park Playground. Kids will be entertained for hours, stimulating their senses of touch, hearing and sight. Or perhaps you’d like to join us for some sporting fun! Followed by a scrumptious picnic in the park!

Activity: STRIKE at Timezone & Zone Bowling!

Have a crack at bowling at Timezone & Zone Bowling Villawood. Featuring 20 Ten Pin Bowling Lanes, over 130 Arcade Games, Laser Tag, Bumper Cars and a full menu of tasty food and drinks to keep you full and energised in between setting a new high score on the Arcade Game machines or beating your own personal Bowling best!

What is the Be Yourself Disability Services (BYDS) Holiday Program?

BYDS’s school holiday program empowers you to build your social skills by getting involved and active! We believe you are the driver of your life, and we are here to support you through the process. It provides the opportunity for you to meet new people and make new friends. The program opens up a range of exciting, fun activities for you to immerse yourself in.

How does pick-up and drop-off work?

Our specialised staff will ensure to pick you up at 9:00am from your place of residence and then drop you back home by 4:00pm. Please keep in mind pick-up and drop-off times may vary depending on traffic conditions.

Does the program include food?

Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea are provided, tailored to the participant’s wants. We provide nutritious yet delicious meals, with our specialised staff using therapeutic language to encourage healthy eating.

What if we have dietary requirements?

We cater to any particular food requirement, needs, allergies, and intolerances.

Do I have to attend all days or specific days?

There is no obligation to come every day! You will need to book into each holiday program through the booking forms process. You can choose which days you attend based on your preferences and interests; however, we also need to match clients in groups and keep to funded ratios. We will work with you to find the best days available that suit your needs.

What if I would like to leave or cancel a day?

Details regarding this are located in your Service Agreement under ‘Cancellation Policy’ and ‘Ending a Service Agreement’. You will be required to give the appropriate notification. You will not be charged if you cancel before the 24 hour period.

What is your admin fee?

Be Yourself Disability Services charges an admin fee of 2 hours which is: $62.17 X 2 hours = $124.34.

This includes the initial booking, including program booking, itinerary, risk assessment and documentation (shift log, behaviour log, and photo are from the
day).

There is an additional 1 hour ($62.17) charge per day for documentation (admin).

How much do you charge for kilometres?

Be Yourself Disability Services charges kilometres incurred during the program from the participant’s house to the activity and back to the participant’s home. In reflection of the NDIS price guide, Be Yourself Disability Services charges $1.00 per kilometre.

How does the BYDS t-shirt work?

Upon picking up on the participant’s first day of attending the program, they will receive their Be Yourself Disability Services t-shirt and their name tag, free of charge.

How does registration work?

1. Parent/Guardian must complete Be Yourself Disability Services Online School Holiday Program ‘Registration Form’. This details basic information and a selection of days attending the program.

2. Once the registration form submission has come through, one of our friendly Be Yourself Disability Services team members will be in contact to have a chat over the phone, obtaining as much detail to prepare the program booking.

3. The program booking and service agreement are attached and sent to your email.

Also requesting for allied health report (Occupational therapy report, Behaviour
Support Plan etc., to assist with risk assessments).

4. Once the Service agreement and Program booklet have been signed and emailed
back, the BYDS Team will send out a tailored itinerary over the next week for you to confirm.

5. A finalized itinerary and risk assessment will be sent a week before the program.
